Lucid Absinthe

In case you don't know, Lucid is an absinthe that was banned for close to 100 years in the U.S; that is, until it was finally legalized about a year ago. It is now legit to buy here in the states but it is VERY expensive...approximately $80 a bottle. Well anyway, a friend of mine and I finally tried some Lucid a few weeks ago. We did the whole preparation bit the way you're supposed to: the sugar cubes, the spoon, and the cold water. It was certainly interesting...not like anything else I have drank before. It does have the taste of black licorice, but not so bad that you can't drink it (I don't like black licorice, but I was able to stomach this drink just fine). The feeling was not like other drinks; very thoughtful, very introspective. But that might have been because we had researched it and expected it to be different. I've had many different drinks in my life, and this was like nothing I've had before. And no, we didn't hallucinate (the absinthe sold in the U.S. has very little thujone....you would die from alcohol poisoning long before having any hallucinations). We did feel a little strange though. After about an hour and a half, we quit and switched to our usual drink of preference.

If you are unfamiliar with the world of absinthe's, I would recommend trying a different brand first. Le Tourment Vert is cheaper than Lucid, as well as St George and Kubler.

Would I ever buy another bottle? Probably not, especially given the price. But I will drink it again, if someone else purchases it!
