Lucretia's Body Oils & Sprays

Ladies, you must check out Lucretia's. She sells body oils and sprays for just about every fragrance (men's, women's, & unisex) on the market for a fraction of the cost of purchasing perfumes and colognes at a retail store.

I first heard about Lucretia from Ateyaaa on youtube. I've purchased from her twice and have had nothing but great experiences. Each time, my order arrived in approximately 10 business days or less (I believe she's still a small business) and wrapped very well. The scents are pretty much spot on and they last all day and into the night. According to her site, the scents "contain 30% pure perfume oil in a silk base with aloe and vitamin E" and no alcohol.

If you're into perfumes, you should definitely check her out! I can't tell you how much money I've saved by purchasing these oils rather than the regular bottles at the store.

So far I've purchased:

Black Woman
UR Woman
Pu$$y
Ed Hardy
Viva La Juicy

I actually own a regular bottle of Viva La Juicy and I swear that her oils are pretty much exact replicas. I purchased my 1.7 oz bottle of Viva for $65 + tax. I purchased Lucretia's oil for $10 + shipping. The 1 oz spray bottle that I purchased are regularly priced at $12 each.

FYI: There is a minimum purchase of $20.

New Year, New Me

A lady never tells her weight! But I will say that I want to lose at least 30 pounds. And what better time to start than with the upcoming new year! For me, it takes extra motivation to commit to anything. But I promise once I'm there, I'm there till the end! I have registered with Calorie King to help track what I eat and to track my weight loss progress. With Calorie King, there is a yearly fee to access all their databases. But for those who do not want to pay a fee, there is an alternative...try Spark People. Below is a calender to show my projected work out plan and my weekly weight ins. I post it in hopes to get anyone reading motivated and to **keep** me motivated. I'm starting with working out only three day per week. But once I get in the swing of things, eventually I will increase to five times per week. I chose the elliptical because that is by far my favorite workout machine and I believe it to be a good start in increasing my stamina. In February I will switch things up so that I do not grow bored with my program and to work different muscle groups.

Rest In Peace, Eartha

You know how you just happen to key in on something or someone for no apparent reason? This morning, I keyed in on Eartha Kitt. Just felt like looking up her bio, as I had included her song "Santa Baby" in my "Christmas master mix" of songs to play in the house for today. Well, she died today, at age 81, of colon cancer. Just found out.

Kitt came from troubled beginnings, to become one of the first bonafide black sex symbols who crossed over to white America, including via her role as Cat Woman in the Batman television series in the 1960s (starring Adam West and Burt Ward.) Unlike Dorothy Dandridge and Lena Horne, whose sex appeal to white America was considered threatening in a slightly earlier era (which is why Max Factor was hired to create a makeup that would darken Ms. Horne's skin,) Kitt boldly asserted her sexuality. Orson Wells, with whom she apparently had a brief relationship, accurately called her "the most exciting woman alive." Kitt was one of a kind, and an international sensation. Though the majority of her career took place before I was born, my mother, who was in her generation, loved her (though Lena Horne was her all-time favorite actress,) and we watched the "Batman" re-runs when I was a kid. Plus she was hilarious in "Boomerang," doing a clever "cougar" send-up of her sex kitten past. She even crossed over to the younger generation, via her role as the voice of Empress Yzma in "The Emperoror's New Groove," as well as the "Emperor's New School" cartoon series. Kitt was also a risk taker, openly opposing the Vietnam war, and being blacklisted for it, and advocating for children. From the New York Times Obit:

Yet for all the camp appeal and sexually charged hauteur of Ms. Kitt’s cabaret act, she also played serious roles, appearing in the films “The Mark of the Hawk” with Sidney Poitier (1957) and “Anna Lucasta” (1959) with Sammy Davis Jr. She made numerous television appearances, including a guest spot on “I Spy” in 1965, which brought her her first Emmy nomination.

For these performances Ms. Kitt very likely drew on the hardship of her early life. She was born Eartha Mae Keith in North, S.C., on Jan. 17, 1927, a date she did not know until about 10 years ago, when she challenged students at Benedict College in Columbia, S.C., to find her birth certificate, and they did. She was the illegitimate child of a black Cherokee sharecropper mother and a white man about whom Ms. Kitt knew little. She worked in cotton fields and lived with a black family who, she said, abused her because she looked too white. “They called me yella gal,” Ms. Kitt said.

At 8 she was sent to live in Harlem with an aunt, Marnie Kitt, who Ms. Kitt came to believe was really her biological mother. Though she was given piano and dance lessons, a pattern of abuse developed there as well: Ms. Kitt would be beaten, run away and return. By her early teenage years she was working in a factory and sleeping in subways and on the roofs of unlocked buildings. (She would later become an advocate, through Unicef, on behalf of homeless children).

Here's Eartha singing "I want to be evil" in 1962:

Here's "Santa Baby", circa 1960:

Here's Eartha, who performed in 10 languages, singing "C'est si bon" in 1962:

Here's "Extra special guest Eartha Kitt" in an episode of Batman, also from the 1960s:

Someone has put together a terrific compilation of Kitt photos here.

Rest in peace, Eartha. You were a rare talent!

Mega-Tek vs Ovation Cell Therapy

I have been searching for the perfect solution for my hair woos. I am in the process of trying to fix and treat my damaged hair....hair damaged from overuse of hair extensions. One of my ever-helpful co-workers suggested a hair care forum that caters to women who are combating hair problems. For the past few weeks I have been frequenting this website for ideas on the perfect hair care regimen. My lengthy searches on their sight was not in vain. I came across a couple of hair care lines that seems to be all the rave for the females on that site. The two haircare lines are Mega-Tek (MT) and Ovation Cell Therapy (OCT). MT (like other popular products such as Mane and Tail) is a formula used on animals to reduce hair breakage and increase hair growth. While it is marketed for animals, it is safe for human use. OCT is made by the same company as MT but is marketed strictly for human use. The difference between the two product is a slight change in the ingredients but proffers the same hair growth results. Reading the "long hair care" forums, it seems that OCT makes the hair softer while MT seems to be a little harder on the hair. Another difference is in the price, with MT being 30 dollars cheaper than OCT. The "long hair care" forums gives a ton of suggestions on how to use each product, along with pictures of hair growth process from the members who use either product. I reviewed every single thread of information on each product and decided to use MT first before moving on to OCT (the price had a little to do with my decision...and also the fact MT offers the same hair growth success as OCT). But I suggest you check it out to come to your own conclusions. For anyone in the same boat as me, check out longhaircareforum.com. You will not be disappointed!
